Outreach singing in the Frog House

Saturday 14 June 2025
1-2.30pm (singing time) // 1-8pm (festival running time)
The Frog House, Platt Fields Market Garden, South Manchester M14 6LT

We’ve been invited to sing at Frivolous Fields as part of the one-day folk festival on Sat 14 June.

It’s a small outreach singing in a unique setting – an urban market garden in South Manchester. It’s green and lovely, practically outdoors, and part of something which we really love the ethos of. It’s all about community, wellbeing, shared experience, creative expression. The market garden alone is worth visiting, and the food and drink offer is fabulous.

Manchester Urban Diggers and The Traditional Exchange have organised this celebration of folk culture, featuring Jennifer Reid, Troubadour Big Band, The Cutty Wrens, Chermansog, plus Kurdish dancing by @govendmanchester, a drone-folk session led by members of @brownwimpenny, Folk Sports, art, workshops and traditional music sessions all day.

And us lot, singing at full volume in a shed.

It’s a very tiny singing space. We’re at full capacity now for singers participating, but if you’re an experienced Sacred Harp singer and you’re very keen to take part, drop us a line – if anyone drops out, we’ll bring you in! We’d absolutely love to include you if we possibly can.

Of course we love to get new people singing so we’ll have loaner books available, and even if you can’t fit in the square to sing alongside us you might be able to give it some welly from just outside. And if you fancy standing in the middle of the square for a song to get the full surround-sound experience, you will be very welcome!
